Guys, save me from dropping over 700 euros on an Our Legacy Mini Jacket!

Hey everyone,

I am dangerously close to pulling the trigger on an Our Legacy Mini leather jacket, but I need you guys to talk some sense into me. Please tell me there is a better option out there for this price (around €700). I am totally open to hunting for a used jacket.

I'm usually looking for a US size 44-46 (or EU 50-52). Standing at 191 cm and weighing around 94 kg, with a 42-43" chest and 52 cm shoulders, I need something that can accommodate my frame. The Our Legacy jacket is notoriously cropped, and I'm worried it's going to look ridiculous on my height.

• Fit: A true boxy fit with strong, pronounced shoulders.
• Details: A big, prominent collar.
• Leather: I want a nice, shiny, high-quality leather. It needs to be sturdy but still feel "meaty" and substantial. However, I absolutely do not want that stiff "shoe leather" feel (so no Chromexcel, please).

Am I crazy for looking at a fashion brand when there is so much incredible heritage stuff out there? What specific makers or models should I be searching for that hit these exact specs on the second-hand market?

Because its quite a different fit and look on the model there, I mean the one in the video looks to big for him so IDK, it seems like this has a bit of an 'anti-fit' vibe.

The only recent jacketI can think of with an oversized collar is this one. I don't think they made many of them but they come up every so often and are inexpensive. I tried one in a brown and the leather was decent for the price but the whole thing felt a bit costumey somehow, as opposed to vintage(in part for me it was the big collar) so I returned it.

Johnson Leather M-200 or any other of their classic styles. Very broad shoulders, relatively short but they can do adjustment if stock length does not work for you. Most Schotts are fairly narrow in the shoulders.

Honestly for 700 euros it isn’t bad. If you want that style, I don’t think a traditional maker will scratch that itch.

Just be careful if buying used, there are fakes of this around

Since the style of this jacket is thoroughly common nor does Our Legacy in any way justifies such a price-tag, I would consider this the kind of itch that you should find very easy to scratch. Do an image search for the jacket on Vinted. I've gotten at least four or five virtually identical hits on just the first page.

Though if you want to be sure you're getting a good jacket, Vanson Enfield has no alternative on the market, for me personally.

Yes, that's an interesting take. I was hoping that perhaps an oversized Schott 689H might look like this, but it would probably just look like a tent instead of having wide shoulders and a boxy fit. What do you guys think? I love how the Vanson Enfield looks on a hanger, and I love the robust Vanson leather, but I still feel it has more of a rectangular, slim fit (I might be wrong, I've never handled one in person). I was thinking maybe the right choice would be an Aero Highwayman (used), but in jerky horsehide. But then again, it's very hard to score one.

What do you think about the quality of the leather of Our legacy Jacket in comparison to say vanson or schott? I'm really curious about your opinion. Also, I think it has really nice, chunky Lampo zippers (like #10 or even #12?)

I find it to have some old-school flavor with a modern touch – many old-school jackets had this general shape: wide shoulders, short, and a boxy fit. But perhaps I don't see something. Banal leather? Could you elaborate? I'm open to learning.

I’ve seen these jackets in person, and they are quite nice. Im not pretending to be nearly as knowledgeable as Ton, but I don’t think this jacket is bad by any means. And finding a veg tanned leather jacket for 700 euros while doable is not easy.

The pattern issues are seen most clearly in the IG video link. Particularly when he moves. That is a hot mess. The construction itself is exceedingly basic and to be honest, I believe I could make a convincing copy of this jacket with very little effort. To be clear, I’m not an expert with my machine but this pattern looks to have zero shape. It’s a square with sleeves. Even the Aero HWM exhibits more refined tailoring than this jacket and I find it to be one of the most boring jackets on the planet.

The leather looks a bit flat, too uniform and just rather uninteresting to me. Subjective opinion but there is also no provenance for it either. It’s “genuine leather”.

I suppose the fit is fine if you are looking for something like a David Byrne style cropped leather jacket which will hide away your physique. I personally want the opposite. But again this is ultimately up to the person who has to wear it.

Quality of the leather isn't relevant. While I'm sure there's nothing wrong with this jacket, at this price tag, it just isn't a sensible purchase. That kind of money will get you a jacket from an established maker which minimizes your exposure to all the different risks (and there are so many...) & one that is better at retaining its value.

And as I said, it's a Y2K bandwagon cash-in, a knock-off of countless such jackets produced during the 90s or the 2000s, because that's what is currently in general fashion. You can be sure that there is absolutely no intention behind this jacket to make you wear it any longer than one season.

I kind of like this. It's not something I would buy even at €700 (let alone the original price) but I can see the appeal. The pattern is clean and sleek and I also like the boxiness. I can also see why it would work on your tall frame.

This looks like a clubbing/concert jacket and if that's what you want, then why not? It does seem to be so popular right now that it will quickly be out of style, but if you can afford €700 for a one or at most two season jacket then I'd say go for it.

But I don't think you'd be paying for quality - you would definitely be paying for fashion. The lining itself looks really cheap, the leather is unimpressive from the viewpoint of hard wearing, and the pattern doesn't lend itself to any function whatsoever. It's a straight up dance all night jacket, nothing more, but that's also fine. You're only young once, so go for what inspires you.
