I'm new here but would like to know if anybody can refer me to an excellent hat blocker & cleaner in either the Portsmouth, NH or Boston, Mass. areas?
All I know is probably Delmonico Hatter in Connecticut. But, you may want to do a mail-order with one of the many capable shops in the country. I've done that from time to time. And then it doesn't matter where you are.

I have to recommend Optimo Hats in Chicago. While it is not in the area you specified they are very good. Just be sure to specify exactly what you want done and Graham will take care of you. I have been sending hats there for years and the very few times there was an incident it was made right. The only thing I have observed that they don't do is craft ribbons to match those of the 20s. Few would care about such a thing but there are a few of us around that do.

He may not have the appropriate/same vintage ribbon available, but if you specify they will match the original ribbon style/configuration (even frayed).

I am a new member, but have been being entertained and enlighted by these
pages for some time. It was from this forum that I learned about Optimo, and sent him numerous vintage hats for cleaning/sizing, etc. The wait time is very reasonable, and the work is nice. :eek:fftopic: By the way, up in the North
Shore area of Mass. there are some great antique stores with occasional vintage hat finds.
