I'll jump in on this one! Great thread!! 1930's Cavanagh; came original with the hat. Beautifully constructed with thick cardboard, almost like it was reinforced with a paper veneer, leather strap (a little dry, but still in decent condition), and a very nice paper / cardboard brim ring to minimize a noticeable "ring" around the top of the brim as a result of storage. Smart thinking!

Got myself this today, a bit worn but still does the job.

Must be pretty old, the original price for the hat was 13,-, probably krona's and not British pounds. The design seems like art nouveau.

Help Dating Hat Box

I was wondering if anyone could date this hat box? I am curious if the box is from the same time period as the hat

I wasn't sure where to put this, but some time ago I said I was going to try to build the insides of an empty stratoliner box that I had to match one that still has the insides.
Here is my attempt (I "built" the one on the left using a piece from an old mostly destroyed Stetson box)
The one on the right is original.

Thanks. It's no creation of the plastic internals of a Stetson 100 case, but I am pretty happy with the results. I'll leave the heavy duty stuff to the pros

I just won this

According to the seller this is from the SS Arandora Star which would date it from 1929 - 1940 (When it was sunk by a German U Boat)

It's listed as a hat box no inside shots on the listing.

The leather straps are missing but still a lovely piece !
