Greetings!
Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and ta--well, actually, not much wealth. And not much taste either (and that's an overstatement!) just the few glimmers I've gleaned from my father (the only gentleman in the country!
). And truly not much of a 'man' yet either (still getting used to being addressed as one).
Here's all the boring and rambling introductory details that you should probably skip before your eyes glaze over (too late), the questions about the campdraft are below this diatribe:
I am a university student and attend one of the great antipodean institutions of higher-learning! (or rather, it wishes to see itself as such). Mid way through last year I developed the inexplicable and undeniable urge to purchase a bowler hat (?!?! out of the blue-Bam!), yeah, it happens to the best of us...
So, after much searching I got one
)) and discovered this delightful forum in the process! The "Hat thing" as those that endure my company call it, has become an obsession of late, not an uncommon thing I've been led to believe
. I've lurked here on and off ever since.
I'm currently on break back home in Thailand, in Bangkok (that wretched hive of scum and villainy-truly!), and am watching with great envy all those lovely hats a world away being worn so smartly by the denizens of this forum (and watching all those vintage hats slip out of my sight on 'that auction thing'
)
Anyway, about the hat! I've recently become interested with the Akubra Campdraft (not as irresistible a fascination as the bowler incident, but close nonetheless).
After seeing tinmanzzz's pictures of his beautiful Open Road, I've decided that I really like its shape that way and its colour.
Now, I've seen other open road types (mostly the stetsons) on ebay etc., and have been wondering if the colour Akubra calls "silverbelly" is the same one that Stetson uses. Or is it darker? Is tinmanzzz's Marlbrough 40 silverbelly at all? Or some fantastically rare pigment, derived from the stomach juices of some extinct himalayan ostrich?
Hey! Wake up! *shake
I know, I tend to ramble a lot (like now, and use a lot of unnecessary brackets, also like now....
)
Anyway, any help could be appreciated, thank you!
PS
and if you're ever in melbourne town in the winter (which can be any time of the day, any part of the year it seems
screwy weather), look for the kid in the black bowler, it can't be anyone else!
