Help Identify this fedora? vented… Vintage?

Hello Hat Hivemind :
I found this hat with a couple other law enforcement/ forest service hats. Any idea to it make, age, use? it has an unusual cotton/linen browband. 3 vent holes on each side.

Not a lot to go on. The fact that it’s a size medium, rather than say a 7 1/8 (actual hat size), and the cloth sweatband makes me think it’s not a high quality hat. The finish also looks rough…maybe wool? It’s obviously missing its crown ribbon/hatband too. I think it’s going to be hard to identify it. Can you make out the writing on the size tag above the “M?” Sorry, but maybe someone else here will recognize it.
