Guys I need your help...I'm contemplating putting together a Princess Leia Speeder Bike outfit. Before I do I want to research some options. The head gear calls for model AN-H-15 WWII pilot summer flight helmet. Do you WW2 experts know if there are repros being made (To cut down costs mainly) or if there are some decent priced ones out there to be had. There's one on ebay right now, but the starting price is $75. Here's a link to give you an idea of what I want the end product to look like:

Holly, try Garcia Aviation at:

http://www.garciaaviation.com/cgi-l...534.95345*Eb2dQ3&p_id=400&xm=on&ppinc=search2

But it's good to keep an eye on Ebay as they frequently come up. Also Martin (callsign: Belly Tank) may have a few links up his sleeve!! please :) cheers Mate.

Hey Holly, you really sound as though you are going to town on this!! Can't wait to see it all when it's finished :)

I did find a source a while back that has new old stock AN-H-15s for sale for $60 in 3 sizes I believe- an online surplus store-
I'll see if I can dig it up.
These are the 'kakhi/tan' cloth ones, right?

I'll check back later if I can find them-

BT.

a little digging found the place I was thinking of...
...it seems the price has gone up in the last 3 years!
But you could pay a lot more for a crappy one on eBay- these are N.O.S. and they have size LARGE, which you would need. I just sold a Bates Shoe Co. one a month back and it was an XL- you just missed out there.

This place has some other kool N.O.S. gear too.

Good luck!

Thanks so much! Yes, the cloth ones. I wear in a 6 7/8 in fedoras...Do you really think I need a Large...seems like it'd be too big.

Also are these a British or USA flight helmet?

Not sure how far I'll get with it Paddy...I don't sew nor do I have a pattern for it. And I'm lacking in the greenish donut thing that goes around the helmet, not to mention Leia always has these intricate hairstyles. We'll see.

You have a speeder bike Holly? I think there is one on eBay right now. :p
J/K!

What's the outfit for? Just wondering.
Actually, yes...but I need the right outfit...Leia's Speeder Bike outfit. Indygear just doesn't do the bike justice. Actually I just like costuming...Leia being my favorite female hero.

ITG ...the flying helmet...

ITG- the AN-H-15 is WW2 USAAF and USN issue, the 'AN' is Army/Navy, as the 2 services started to share items and designations, there are also AN flight jackets, flightsuits and many others. The 'H'- headwear...
So it's Army and Navy.

Don't be fooled by the size, you'll have a lot of hair inside the helmet- I just saw the Leia props page and it hints that she used a large one because she's got the hair-danish' thing going on under the helmet.
Far better to be too big than too small don't you think(?)
It also says that on that site that her's was a 'Bates Shoe Co.' one, same as mine was... (who cares...)

Anyway- good luck with it.

BT, thanks for clearing that up. I figured being flight stuff it would have been Air Force but I didn't know if it was US or RAF...I guess I was wrong on both accounts. I have so much to learn about military stuff. Do you have a link for the one you have...the Bates Shoe one?

No-no...

- these are WW2 vintage- mid-late war. The ones at the ArmyNavySales website are a good deal because they're new-old-stock and available in size Large. Anything you find on eBay may cost less, the same or a lot more and be crappy or altered.
Bates Shoe Co. was just one wartime maker among many- commercial contracters of all kinds of products who had thwe available skills, machinery and material availability. Like Kelvinator making Tanks...
All the contractors made the wartime production to strict production guidelines with standardised materials and construction.
