Hi everyone! My husband is a Marine stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico, and I thought some of you might be interested in these gems from the past!
You know the classic design. You know the incredible features, such as built-in metal doors, shelving and cabinets. But did you know you might be able to obtain a fantastic Lustron home sooner than you ever thought?
The Public Private Venture (PPV) at Marine Corps Base Quantico, on behalf of the Department of Navy is accepting proposals for the dismantling and removal of up to 58 Lustron homes. This is the largest collection of historic Lustrons in the world. The collection is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, and this unique program will make the Lustrons available for bidders able to cover the cost of dismantling and relocating the homes.
The threshold criteria for successful bidders will be their ability to remove these unique structures at no incremental cost to the PPV’s family housing project. The PPV is not trying to generate a profit with this request for proposals (RFP), so any bid that covers the cost of dismantling and relocating, without delay to the project, would be financially competitive. The Lustrons in both Geiger Ridge and Argonne Hills are currently occupied by Marine families, so the removal process can not begin until these homes are vacated in June 2006 and Summer of 2007 respectively.

There is lots of info on the website, including photos, colors and floorplans as well as bid proposals. I found the Lustron History section particularly interesting.
