How can I get the wind flap removed on a Vanson Mercury jacket?

I already know there's going to be a lot of pushback on this but I really don't like the look of the windflap. I also don't live somewhere that gets nearly cold enough to need the wind flap so I want to get rid of it. Can I just take it to a standard alterations tailor or do I have to look for something more specialised?

The easiest way is to cut it off, leaving about 1/4" still intact so you don't have to mess with reinstalling the zipper. Cut from the back, reverse cloth lining first then the leather.

I hacked mine off with scissors. Off with the thing! - very satisfying.
