lol Well done :eusa_clap

I do love this quote:

The first and last thing demanded of genius is the love of truth
Goethe
How I wish people would speak truth, Thanks Mr. Major.

I don't understand that for today's meaning of 'genius', as sugested by the site's context. Unless you mean a person with genius has the responsibility to use it in an ethically correct way. But that's just as true or untrue for others, isn't it?

18th century German theoretical thinkers hardly meant "an Einstein" by genius. (Connoisseurs of German will know there's a difference between Genius and Genie.)

I believe Unsquare Dance does show genius, quantifiably.

Yes, quantifiably. 2-2-3, to be precise.:D

But rhythms that don't seem to fit don't have to be fivers or seveners - just listen to The Rock & Roll Waltz! Though it has a certain cheap touch as all slow 50s rock-n-roll songs, which tend to be similar to Country songs, it's just too funny.

"There in the night what a wonderful scene.
Mom was dancing with Dad to my record machine.
And while they danced, only one thing was wrong:
they were trying to waltz to a rock & roll song.

a-one, two, and then rock
a-one, two, and then roll"
and so forth

And never mind about the more popular watery version with Kay Starr. Go right for Ms O'Day. (The hyperlinked sample stops right before the funny part, I'm afraid.)

I think he meant that anyone that was intelligent enough to seek knowledge, would wish to find true knowledge. A true scientist will always seek the truth of any hypothesis. True scientific experimentation should be unbiased in it's approach to find the truth or fallacy in any theory, regardless of any preconceived ideas or opinions.

Genius? Dazzle 'em with brilliance or baffle 'em with b.s.

Good points Maj. Nick.

Speaking as a scientist...
Science works, i.e. uncovers the truth, not by trying to prove anything but instead trying to disprove it. I seek true knowledge by eliminating all possible alternative hypotheses. Part of maintaining the unbiased approach in the scientific method is to always consider the alternative explanations (and test them).

I think it was Dale Carnegie that once said everybody is a genius in her/his own right. We each have our areas of expert knowledge. We each have something to learn from somebody else.

That's the whole Occam's Razor thing is it not? Pare away all the nonsense to find the truth.
I wish all "science" today was unbiased, but alas, grant money so often seems to interfere with the pursuit of truth.
In our Cleveland Museum of Natural History, there is this little, supposedly homonid skeleton named "Lucy", that the stuffed-shirt, arrogant discoverer of, purports to be that of one of the earliest human ancestors! lol lol lol
I know that he conveniently found this jumble of bazzillion year old bones right after the Louis Leaky "discoveries" in Africa, and was enticed to do so by means of a hefty grant!
My take is,..."Really!? How can a mishmosh of million year old bones from a multitude of species at an obscure little watering hole in Africa possibly be concluded to be that which it is said to be?"
Actually it strikes me to be composed of parts of a modern skeleton of a child mixed with various bones from several other critters.
A lot can happen in a million years! Indeed a lot can happen in a single year.
"Science" like this is amusing if nothing else. It's a fantastic stretch of the imagination fueled by greenbacks. lol

Yahoo! I just realized I made a thousand posts! "One Too Many" Do I win a prize or something? A cab ride home? lol
