Immaculate 1930s Dudley G. Eldridge

I picked this up today from a friend who called to tell me she had a Dudley G. Eldridge homburg. I had never heard of Dudley G. Eldridge and I don't need any more homburgs, but i had some credit with her and she had some ties in as well, so I went to see what was new.

The hat is a very dark brown with a bronze ribbon. Measurments will have to wait until i have time to measure it, but it's not a homburg. The crown was unbashed and the brim turned up so I can see why she thought it was, but it fell right into the shape you see with just a light handling. It's lovely! Thick felt but very supple. It's a generous 7 1/8, but I'll still need to get it stretched a bit (as you can see form the pics).

Super Immaculate!

That hat looks new! I have a brown Capper and Capper with a bronze ribbon too. Not as nice as yours. Optimo convinced me to leave the ribbon alone. Looking at your photo it appears that the bow has fringe on the aft side? My Capper does.

Dudley G. Eldridge was one of NYC’s premier custom shirt makers, like Sulka, Charvet, F.R. Tripler and Brooks. They would often also supply gentlemen’s ancillary needs (eg gloves, scarves, socks and even hats).

They were located on a lower gallery level in Rockefeller Center ( 30 Rock) until the late 1960’s I believe.
