As many of you know, I went to the Fedorafest IV in Memphis/Covington last May and came away with ideas for hats that I would not have thought of before. I started looking at names of some of the great Blues musicians both current and past, along with other people/ entities associated with the blues and came away with so many ideas my head hurt!!!!
So, without further ado, please let me show you just a couple of hats to start this line
Please meet "Gatemouth"
Gatemouth2-vi.jpg

Steel pure beaver
Brim = raw edged 2 1/2"
Silk Finish
5 1/2' crown open
4 1/2" creased in Diamond
ribbon color "glen"

When going to Beale street in Memphis with my friend the first thing he pointed out was a store there that had been there for generations and the owner was a good friend of his. The name of the store sent me through the roof with ideas, it was called "Tater Red's"
Please meet "Tater Red"

TaterRed1-vi.jpg

color= Cabernet , pure beaver
brim = raw edge. 2 3/8"
crown= 5 1/2" open, 4 1/2"creased in what I would call "Double diamond"
ribbon color "cream"

What do you think guys? Ed has already started making pages for them ( 8 total right now, more coming) for my website and I'm busy getting ready for a road trip to LA but in the next few weeks they will be available for sale. These are just the first two. Want to see more?

Very nice Art... I have already posted about Pinetop Perkins elsewhere.
But would you by chance be talking about the one and only Gatemouth Brown?

Very cool. I especially like the Gatemouth. The Steel felt works really well with that colour ribbon.

Actually - the Honeyboy is stunning too!

Nice to see some new editions, Art.

To be politically correct I have to mention there were two "Gatemouth"s but yes, the inspiration came from Gatemouth Brown. Can you see the lips?

Art, you are as tireless as your creations are timeless.

(Something tells me that Muddy Waters mightn't make an appearance.)

Legacy hats, to be sure.

:)

Thank you Randall, you bet he's on the list. There are just so many it's hard to imagine. So far the biggest challenge is SRV since he wore westerns with lets say, flair?

I should add also Gentlemen that for those who haven't had the opportunity to spend time in the shop with me, there is a constant stream of music, mainly the Blues, playing at all times. Thank goodness there are no camera's because one man dancing has been known to occur. Often I can't hear the phone between the music and the machines. It's what gets me through the day with a smile so a series of Bluesmen SO fits. I may never run out of great names!!!

Hubert Sumlin (Howlin Woilf's guitar player) always wore hats in his later years.
John Lee Hooker always wore hats.
