James Taylor at Fenway

Anyone besides me watching the Red Sox and Indians on the tube tonight? Did you catch that bit with a fedora-wearing James Taylor introducing the Boston starting lineup? The camera just a minute ago (in the eighth inning) went back to him and, yup, he's still got the lid. Can't say if it's vintage or not, but it certainly looks like it's a traditional style.
Always did like that guy.

A shot of JT with the hat.

I have seen him in this hat before, also he often wears a Open Road type hat with the cattlemans crease.

Interesting shot of JT, is that hat a bit fuzzy. Somehow it seems most of the entertainers who wear a fedora like to wear the front brim up. I just can't get use to the brim up. Down is where its at.:p

Either way, it's a really nice looking hat.

Bump

Anyone seen the cover art for the new James Taylor album? (Do they still call 'em albums?) It appears that JT is sporting the same fuzzy-finish fedora he wore at Fenway.

Sure enough. Picked it up at Starbucks the other day. It's actually a CD plus a 2-hr. concert DVD. Great stuff.

Yeah, I first spotted it at a Starbucks too. (They got about a zillion Starbucks outlets out here, you know. Seems like there's one on every other corner.) And I just tonight spotted an advertisement for it in The New Yorker. Now that I've actually bothered reading the ad instead of just glancing at it in passing, I see that it is a career retrospective of sorts. A worthwhile purchase you say, eh Jimmy?

I think so, Tony. If you're a JT fan, you've heard these songs before. But the premise of this project is that it's an evening of JT getting back to his roots -- just JT and a pianist doing beautiful arrangements of his tunes in a live concert setting. It was recorded at an old theater in Pittsfield, Mass. close to where JT now lives. Executive Producer is Sidney Pollack -- so beautifully filmed. And JT is really a very funny guy -- the intros to songs, etc. are extremely entertaining. Thumbs up!

Cheers,
JtL

One of the most musical voices of the last several decades. I went up through Mass. one year (1971) for Christmas and met the actual, genuine Officer Obie from Arlo Guthrie's song and movie (Alice's Restaurant). He was very personable and liked being a cultural icon.
