Scored this 40s police jacket with a corduroy collar & 2 inside pockets. It is a very heavy jacket. Who do you guys think is the maker of this one?

Idk about the inner pocket zipper, but the button sleeves design, four front belt loops, the corduroy collar, the brown leather inside the kidney panel all point to Ralphs-Pugh. Congrats!

How do you older men style your police jackets. I like the ones from San Diego leather but I feel maybe I am pushing things too far by wearing one. Love the look though.

Can you wear a dress shirt with it. Maybe a button down Oxford ? LOL

That's the cool thing about leather jackets. You can dress up or down, with dress shirt, tie and slacks or just casual, jeans, boots and such

I wear them like a black windbreaker—a jacket. I think you’re overthinking it and being conscious about it; people don’t think about you as often as you think they do. Just like you’re not thinking about people, you’re simply part of the crowd to other people. A black police leather jacket doesn’t stand out among the crowd, unless you have a badge attached to its chest pocket. Then, people would be alert of you and behave properly.

I would guess it is in fact a Ralph's Pugh, although those features are not exclusively Ralph's Pugh.

Interesting there is a thread on "no label" jackets up now. This Ralphs-Pugh is a good example. RP, like many makers, made and sold jackets without their label or under a store label.

It takes some knowledge and experience to identify makers. This forum is full of pictures and other information to help ID vintage jackets. We have learned much in the last few years.

The RP jackets have a distinctive back design that I look for. They are always high quality leather and made to last. They also have a certain "fit".

I would like to see a picture of the zipper pull. You did well. Even without a label it is quality. I would guess it is horsehide, mid to late 40s. RP had a fairly straight forward catalog after the War. The straight zip police jacket was a main stay in their catalog.

You often see the 2 pocket interior on RP jackets.

I do. I believe is how you carry yourself when wear a nice black jacket. In Paris, I often rocked my Cal zip with a nice fitted lux type white dress shirt. Valentino and other brands go perfect with a nice X zip jacket. With this "look" I practically got in to any bar or restaurant I visited. Even when I ride to a nice bar, I wear a white dress, ****. Just the way I roll. Pass no judgment with other looks people prefer.

Here's my new Californian straight-zip CHP:

A Californian CHP has always been one of the jackets on my wishlist. I think it started when I watched this tmitchell video. I've always been a relatively conservative dresser so the straight zip felt like a safe option that still had cool motorcyle vibes. From what I've seen it doesn't seem to be a particularly rare jacket; there are usually a few floating around the marketplaces at any point. However, to find one in good condition was always tough so I was pretty happy when I landed mine.

The leather is really nice. It's very substantial while still being comfortable. The grain is amazing. California Sportswear seems to be a forum favorite and now I see why. Although I haven't had many chances to wear it, it's definitely been a gateway drug to motorcycle jackets for me. Hopefully up next is a cool cross zip :)

Do you have a fit pic?
