Loosing my sweatband

I've noticed to my horror, that the sweatband is coming loose on my Penny's Marathon Whippet clone.

The thread appears to have dried out and snapped. It started out only an inch or so long, but now I can tell it's starting to lengthen everytime I wear it.

Can I use just regular thread and a needle to repair, and do I need to sew back the entire area or just sew it back at each end of the separation?

Which thread, the thread holding the sweat to the reeding, or the thread holding the reeding to the hat?

or, I guess I should ask- is it reeded or is the sweat sewn directly to the felt?

Bring the hat to a local hatter. He should be able to sew in the leather properly for you. In Florida , there is a store called Hats& Hats on 163rd st. He can do it for you.

Oops, sorry. It's the thread that holds the sweatband to the reeding.

Thanks Steven, I'll look into that place on 163rd. Good show.
