my First Fedora

Hi Folks

I am thinking of purchasing my first fedora. I searched thrift stores and antique shoppes for the past 3 weeks and came up empty. So I am thinking of using ebay for my first fedora, I know its a bit of a gamble but I probably wasted over $150.00 on gas in the past 3 weeks alone. Anyway there is a Cavanaugh Thirty listed in my size, three days remaining on the listing.

Please give it a look and tell me what you think. I want a Fedora yesterday.

TIA

Regards

Agreed on the link, as there are many Cavanaughs on eBay. My two cents: I suggest slowing down a bit. If you've only been seriously searching for three weeks and a Lounge member since this month, I assume you have not been researching vintage fedoras for much longer. I recommend spending a couple more weeks digging through the "Important Hat Threads" sticky and extensively using the advanced search options to read up on vintage fedora threads. You could spend years doing this and still learn something new, but if you want a nice vintage fedora to start off, if I were you, take a step back and think about the fedora's style and its quality. Cavanaughs will usually cost you more money than other brands, so the brand might not be the best choice if you're constricted by a budget. Less expensive brands for their time, like Champ for example, can be had for much cheaper in price and are excellent hats in quality and style that many people pass up for the higher-end brands. I recently picked up an almost-like-new 1940's Champ of a Stetson "Whippet" style for $25 that would have probably cost me over $150 or $200 if it were a Stetson or Cavanaugh. Of course if you are looking to collect as an investment, most Champs might not pay off, but if you intend to wear the fedora often, I suggest a cheaper brand to start. The upside is if you have a $150+- budget, you can get four or five different style hats of a cheaper brand to try them out rather than one hat of a more expensive brand.

I think it looks great, if you like the narrow brim. I have always wanted a Cav.
