i was wondering if any of you had some thoughts or observations on the new online selection at Worth & Worth.
let me say at the outset that i am a proud customer of the old Worth & Worth on Madison Ave. and bought many hats from them.
the former online catalogue, made i believe by Cervo, contained for the most part a classic, elegant assortment of hats.
i just was looking at the new selection on their website. some of the more traditional hats are still there and in fact the photos are better. and some of the newer hats they now offer, like the amalfi or the tweed jockey cap are quite compelling. i am especially taken with the Trilby with Wide Ribbon. and i may even pick one of these up.
but some of the newer models like the Raffinato, the Dandy and Selector, particularly with contrasting stitching, just scream "PIMP" to me. is this the direction of the contemporary hat market or just poor taste on the part of their buyers?
also, in terms of color, i see in their catalogue fewer of the traditional navy, black, brown, steel gray . . . and more oatmeal, rust, red, etc.
tell me honestly, how many of you out there would actually buy and wear a teal hat?
i have one of Worth & Worth's catalogues with photographs of the Cervo factory in Italy where everything is hand-made by older men with literally generations of collective experience in hatmaking. it is just hard for me to visualize some of these pimpish-looking constructions coming out of this factory.
all of which leads me to this final question: "Wither the Hat Market?"
