NYT article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/31/nyregion/thecity/31mete.html

The game of curbside cat and mouse that began in 1951, when New York got its first mechanical parking meters, continued until the last meter was withdrawn from service on Dec. 20.

Geez, I hate parking meters. Several of us around here, along witht he local businesses managed to at least have parking free downtown for the holidays. The businesses complain that people buy less when they have to keep watching their time. They call them a commerce killer. I tend to agree because I watch the time if I am stuck parking at one of those. It makes you choose between a quarter or a ridiculously high fine. I'll take the quarter thanks. :p
When they are all gone from service then I'll be happy. :D

Regards,

J
