Orange dust in Lost Worlds jacket liner?

I'm looking at a Lost Worlds jacket, and the seller notes that there's some sort of orange dust coming through the liner, as though there was some interior foam that has disintegrated.

Any idea what might have caused this?

(At the moment the jacket's overpriced, given its condition!)

Seller must have been eating a lot of Cheetos and handling the jacket.

I’d email Stu and check on whether the liner is known to do that. I have a similar quilted lining (navy) on one of mine and haven’t seen any “dust” coming through.

The LW quilted lining is foam lined so theoretically it could possibly be doing what the seller is describing.

Saying that i have LW jackets with that lining that are more than 20 years old and they are fine...
Any pics?

Came across devil dust which seems to apply here with the PE foam backing the lining. Unfortunately will require a new lining as the foam is trashed.

Noticed the seller is from Florida. Humidity and improper storage could lead to the foam rotting and turning into a powdery form that sifts through the stitch holes like in this jacket.

Oddly enough, devil dust sounds like something @red devil and Tony Montana would come up with if they collaborated.

Tweedy - do you have any photos of this?

Interestingly enough, the Branded jacket you now have was also sourced out of Florida, and while I did not see any "dust" inside it from the lining, it certainly had the "rank" smell of mildew. I hope that one is cleaning up for you there!

For sure, if that LW needs a re-line, I'd see if Stuart could do the work.

Such a thing commonly occurs on old motorcycle jackets with soft armor which is nearly always made from PU foam that had completely degraded. Many old Lewis Leathers jackets suffer from it. But I'm surprised this is happening to a LW jacket as I don't recall them ever incorporating armour into their styles and also, they are still too new.

In my experience, it isn't such a big deal. Once dusted out which, granted, can take some time, but the jacket itself shouldn't be any worse for it.

Given its condition, I think this is one to avoid!
Looks like it sold.

I think it should still be salvageable though - the actual leather should be fine. Just needs a lining replacement and some cleaning of whatever residue is left from the previous one.

I do get wanting to avoid it if you just want to get a jacket and don’t want to go through the hassle of having it refurbished

I had a LW jacket that arrived with this kind of dust. It came from a batch specially made for the japonese market. I believe it was some kind of saw dust used during the shipment to keep the cargo steady.
