Any Perry Como fans out there? I just enjoy his voice
and always like this song, was it swing type music
(after WWII) or something else?
I just love it! You would expect the Andrew sisters
or the Pointer Sisters sing something like this, I think its so intersting,
Just wish I could dance. lol

Its always fair weather,
when hep cats get together!
And every time they meet,
heres the way youll hear them greet ( greet! )
A hubba-hubba-hubba Hello Dad!

Well a hubba-hubba-hubba, I just got back!
Well a hubba-hubba-hubba, lets shoot some breeze!
Say, whatever happened to the Japanese?
Hmm a hubba-hubba-hubba, havent you heard?
A hubba-hubba-hubba, slip me the word!

I got it from a guy who was in the kno
It was mighty smoky over Tokyo!
A friend of mine in a B-29 dropped another load for luck,
As he flew away, he was heard to say:
"A hubba-hubba-hubba yuk yuk!"

Well I gotta go fishin
Thats ok, well give you our permission and well say,
A hubba-hubba-hubba, on your way!
And I will dig you later in the USA!
Ta dah dah dee dee dee ta dee dee, ta dah dah hi hi hi tee dee dee!

A hubba-hubba-hubba, I just got in!
A hubba-hubba-hubba, well give me some skin!
Well youre lookin mighty purdy Miss Curly Locks!
Im the grand old girly of the bobby socks!
Hmm yuttata yuttata yuttaton you talk big!
Well Im the fresh tomata you cant dig!
Lets have a heart to hearta and youll decide!
Im a chick what's really on the solid side!

You knock me flat, youre the kind of a cat,
makes me wanta blow my top: " till the end of time . . . " ( Aaaaah! )

And if you feel that way, tell me what you say?
A hubba-hubba-hubba muk muk!

Well now youre really talkin, youre no square!
You cant be from Weehawken . . .
Hmm hmm Delaware!

You got a line of jive thats really zoo!
Well Ill dig you later, baby youre all root!

Youre the kind of cat, wears a sharp cravat,
and you really know your stuff!

If you feel that way, tell me what you say?
A hubba-hubba-hubba ruff ruff!

A getta long a little mousy with the great big eyes,
well if youre lookin for a spousey,
why youre just my size!

Mister how you love to blubber
with that knock out squawk,
Seems your lips are made of rubber
every time you talk!

Oh no, no, no, hubba-hubba!

Yes, yes, yes, hubba-hubba!

Bop, bop, bop, hubba-hubba!
A what you kno ( A what you kno )
A what you say ( A what you say )
I say Ill dig you later baby in the USA!

Someone say Perry Como!! His CD is in regular rotation at my house.

Speaking of lyrics, how about:

( Doodle oodle ooh doo, doodle oodle ooh doo,
doodle oodle ooh doo, doo ! )

What'cha doin' Hutton?
Doodlin' . . . can you doodle?
Can I doodle? ~ I can't get it outta my noodle!

How come?

'Cause I love you a bushel an' a peck,
a bushel an' a peck and a hug around the neck ( Ouch! )
Hug around the neck and a barrel an' a heap,
barrel an' a heap an' I'm talkin' in my sleep!
About you! ( About me? ) Yes, about you!
My heart is leapin', havin' trouble sleepin' !
'Cause I love you a bushel an' a peck,
you bet your purdy neck I do!

( Doodle oodle ooh doo, doodle oodle ooh doo,
doodle oodle ooh doo, doo ! )

I first discovered him watching the movie Blast From the Past. I've been a fan since, discovering his various styles from various eras.

:eusa_clap :D Don't you just love it when Levy sings while laying on the floor, just tapping his finger? Classic. I was tempted to post that as well!

Another subtly funny bit comes during the lyric to "I Love the Night Life," when he mis-pronounces "boogie" as "bogie," revealing his preoccupation with golf! (I own an LP called Como Swings!, with a cover photo of Perry in mid-golf swing. Good album, and despite SCTV, quite "uptempo," with a nice version of "Route 66.")

This is my all-time favorite Perry Como song! Thanks so much for posting it.

My Mom was a big Perry Como fan. She never missed his TV show back in the 1950s. I guess some of her enthusiasm rubbed off on me.

I think that many people today don't realize that Como was really popular with the teenage crowd in the mid to late 1940s. It's his music from this period (like the example above) that I like best.

My Mom always thought Perry Como was "IT" & always looked forward to yearly TV specials. Besides his talent there was a dignity to Mr.Como in the way he carried himself. You never saw him in the trash tabloids. Too bad, some of todays performers could take a hint from Perry on how to conduct themselves.

PC was always just too schmaltzy for me. But I did wear a PC sweater in High School. Anyone remember PC sweaters? They were the ultimate in early 60's coolness.

Mr. C did some very nice vocals in the mid-late '30s with the Ted Weems band -- it was an excellent semi-sweet orchestra with a pleasant not-taking-itself-too-seriously kind of feel, sort of like Kay Kyser without the funny hats. I think that experience had a lot to do with shaping Como's future laid-back style.

I was hoping someone else would mention Ted Weems. (I talk entirely too much about him myself. )

On some of those earliest sides, Como sounds outright rough, as if he was self-taught (which I think he was) and still had some training to do.

Here's something for the Perry Como fans out there, a picture of the Perry Como statue in front of the library in Perry's (and my own - I grew up there & my family still lives there) hometown of Canonsburg, PA. Perry had a barbershop in town before he became famous, many of the older people would tell tales of having their hair cut by him when I was a little girl.

I think you folks would like Canonsburg. While it's a little shabby now, it's always been one of those towns that time forgot.

I think it was only after the War, maybe 1947, that Como started really sounding like himself. Before that, to my ears, the Crosby influence was awfully strong.
Speaking of a town that time forgot, you could say that about most of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Not that that's a bad thing!
At one point around 1962 we all went around singing "Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, two to one in burns your pants." ;)

I was just listening to this song and checking out the lyrics online, and here it led me right back to my new hangout, the Fedora Lounge.

I do have one nitpick with the lyrics above, though, as they show up on all the usual lyrics sites. I believe the second line is "I'm the Gravel Gertie of the bobby socks." Gravel Gertie was a Dick Tracy character, and Gertie rhymes with purty.

(Yes, I really resurrected this thread so I could fix that error. But I am a Perry Como fan.)

Sentimental PC is good too...

After I heard Perry Como's version of Blue Room on XM's 40s on 4 I had to track down a copy - it's originally an old 20's (I think) tune but his wistful take on it is a real tear jerker:

We'll have a blue room
A new room for two room
Where ev'ry day's a holiday
Because you're married to me.

Not like a ballroom
A small room, A hall room
Where I can smoke my pipe away
With your wee head upon my knee.

We will thrive on, keep alive on
Just nothing but kisses
With Mister and Missus
On little blue chairs.

You sew your trousseau
And Robinson Crusoe
Is not so far from worldly cares
As our blue room...far away upstairs
