Pinzano Panama hat

After reading up on Panama hats and with summer rapidly approaching,i made my way down to my local haberdasher to look them over.I have always tried on hats before buying(no internet hat sales except the odd gamble on a Borsalino).
They had just received their latest shipment and i had a wide variety of choices.
I will admit that i have never really like the look of a Panama style hat until the last few years.And i like shorter brims.Lastly,i didn't want to spend a fortune as i really am not a sun worshiper and don't like to be out in the heat during summer.Therefore,price matters.

I found this Pinzano hat that fits like a champ and looks good.I will get some pics of it on my melon tomorrow,weather withstanding.

I'm not familiar with the brand name but at the price,i expect it is a mass produced Panama.it was a lowly $38.Still,i will try it out and with my new summer trousers and sportcoat,i hope to look decent lol lol

Maybe i will upgrade later on.

I was surprised at the price but it IS a real Panama.Woven straw(?).I also was looking at a synthetic Stetson that felt really nice and looked good but at $115.just cannot spend that much on a summer hat.

Ventilited Hat

I like that hat. It looks like the material in the Akubra summer straws but their stuff is not straw. It has the same effect as the Amish straw without the superhigh crown.

It's not a panama paja toquilla Ecuador straw, but I'm going to send a photo down to see if it can be replicated in Ecuador. I'm sure it is paper or plastic, but who knows?

I like the looks of that hat, M. The crown has a sweet style to it.
Check the weave, I think the straw is sown together.
Anyway its a nice looking summer fedora for the money.

This material is commonly called Hombre or visca straw. We sell tons of them in out stores in three different shapes for 38.00 all day . They are made here in the USA and are a good deal for the money . The only thing is , there arent soft . They are meant to last.

Nice hat!

I have had the same hat for years. While it looks like a panama it does seem to be from a non-palm source. RBH thanks for pointing out the obvious. On closer inspection I see mine is sewn together from a series of ventilated ribbons, probably a synthetic. I could not attach a photo.
My hat has has the same block and is a bit stiff which really works for me on the golf course; looks good, provides shade, and gives light protection from errant golf balls. Its a nice hat and need to replace it as the cloth sweat band is a bit beat. I really like the ventilation too. I wish I could get an Ecuadorian with this type of ventilation.

Thanks for the link.The material is a bit stiff but really is still pliable.Feels very good on my melon.And it breathes splendidly!
Here are a few photographs:

I REALLY admire the lower crown and how it is wearable in my Oldsmobile Alero.Cars today were certainly NOT built with hats in mind.But this is the only fedora i can wear in the car without banging it about.

The photos were taken on the Washington side of the Columbia River facing south toward Portland.The bridge behind is a twin span.One section from 1917 and t'other from 1958.Still a beautiful place to take photos.
