Though there are a number of other Cadillacs that I want. I'd love to have a '40s Cadillac again.

Well I'm a classic car nut. I lovem all, but if I had to choose a classy sexy car from a classy generation it would be a 1932 Auburn.

But I'm also a dedicated Jeep fanatic, so as unsexy as it is. It's a true American icon. My second choice would be. 1941 Jeep GPW or MB.

The Ford model T. The car that brought cars to the people. That and it looks kinda dorky in a cool way.

I've thought about those, but the 3-pedal shifting mechanism and 35 mph top speed make it sort of a turn off. They are really neat, though.

That, and I doubt it would feel so neat to drive that thing over a bumpy gravel road either.

Still, it's one of the classics in automotive history.

Definitely.

For "money's no object, just name it and Rich Uncle Pennybags'll toss me the keys": Duesenberg. Any Duesenberg that's in or can be restored to cosmetically correct. (Does anybody in the repli-car community do kits for '30s models?)

For "practical, yet keeping with my very military personal style, again $$$ a non-factor": Any of the various WWII jeeps, fitted with a 5-star plate (since I do style myself as "the new MacArthur", after all...) and a .50 on top. (Not totally period-authentic, but you can't keep what you can't protect, especially in a "war zone"...)

Just the other day I saw a fully restored Duesenburg on TV sell for 1.5 million.

Because of my Jeep craze, and not being able to afford an authintic restored WW2. My daily driver is a 05' Jeep "Willys" edition pictured below. I love it!

41 Buick

My dream car is also the 1941 Buick. It's the last year before the famous "toothy" grill that still identifies Buicks. It had their great straight 8 engine, with dual carburetors. The bigger 320 cubic inch engine was the most powerful motor available in the USA at the time (165 hp), even more powerful than Cadillac's 346 cu in V-8 (150 hp). You can see one on my Myspace page. It's a gorgeous black and silver Century, belonging, I believe, to a gentleman in Ohio. The definitive "Rocketeer" car.

This is the car I am hankering after at the moment. I am going to test drive it on Saturday hopefully.

It is a Riley Kestrel. It is the 22T chasis, which was the sportier version. It is 1.5ltr (Riley's engines gave very good performance for their size), Twin Carb with twin fuel pumps as well.

They are quick (For a pre-war mid price brit car) and will cruise at 60-70mph and faster depending what tuning options it has.

Kind Regards

I test drove it on Friday. Apart from getting used to the pre-selector gearbox it is nice. Needs a couple of jobs such as the chrome sprucing up, but apart from that it is smart.

I am going to call the chap tonight and say yes.

A confession: I did 85 MPH on the M50 on Saturday in my '41 Buick....

OMG, I didn't even know it went that fast, I couldn't believe it when I looked at the speedometer!

Do you get to drive it yourself or do have a driver like Chief Superintendent Chris Foyle?

No and I am not going to mention the name of the driver for all those Foyle's War tragics!

But that one was an Austin Healey right?

Foyles car is a Wolsley. Very common in Police service.

Many have said my other half looks a little like 'Sam', but no, she will not be driving it ;-)
