removed ribbon imprint Q

Just de-ribboned my brand new hat in order to (maybe) dye and then re-ribbon it this weekend. So far so good, but there's a faint line from (I assume) the pressure of the ribbon I just removed. At a glance it resembles fading but isn't.

I'm hoping a light brushing of the hat in a steamy bathroom remove the imprint of the original ribbon...any chance it's a permanent feature?

Sorry if this is addressed elsewhere; search did not turn it up anything that seemed to match.

If it is from fading....You may need to pounce it lightly with some sandpaper. Use 320 grit or 600 grit depending upon the hat finish. You only have to sand just a bit to make the line disappear.

Otherwise it may just be dirt. You can try cleaning it with either denatured alcohol (use gloves!) or a bottle of Everclear ( no gloves required).

I would try cleaning it first and pounce as a last resort.

If the ribbon that you are going to add to the hat will cover the line, then doing nothing is the best option.

Hi Stoney,

I got a real good look at it under the light, and it's definitely a tangible, hair-thin imprint from the small "thread" that runs along the top of the ribbon (bottom too, but that imprint is hidden by where the brim attaches). There's no dirt or fading at all; uniform gray above and below, being a brand new hat and all.

If the imprint doesn't pop back out under steam - not tried it yet - I guess the original size ribbon will have to go back on...not what I wanted but... [huh]
