The Schott 184 MS was a civilian inspired take off the military A2. It has nothing in common with your G2 jacket. Schott makes fine outerwear.

Yes, I often heard that the "MS" means Mil spec. In fact, it means Mel Schott, Irvin Schott's son "IS".
The 184 is the same that the 674, but in cow hide, the 674 is steer.
There were different release of each: fur collar, leather collar, pile lining, quilted lining, 4 in 1...
In France, the old ones with yoke back are still expensive on second hand market. (200 /300 euros).
IMHO, they are always to short in the back, and stiching are often not really well made.

Hmm. I have and in fact pulled it out last night a brand new 184SML black 4-in-1 and it's top-notch all around.
#10 zipper made to zip a 20 man tent, heavy cowhide, and nothing short. The key is the L in SML. It's the long version. But I'm 6'4" and that's why I need it.
Great jacket. Taking the tags off now to wear it.
