This morning:

40s Gillette Super Speed w. Feather (1)
Kent BK4 Silvertip
Mitchell's Wool Fat
Unscented Thayer's Witch Hazel
Proraso ASB

First shave with a Feather. It is definitly sharper that a Derby, I was even able to do a relatively blood- and painless ATG pass, something I usually can't do with a Derby.

First shave with this one. This was an ebay purchase of about a year ago. I finally broke down and had it restored (and re-scaled in zepicote). The best description for the shave with this one was 'buttah', she was that smoooth.

Jakob, that Old Spice is hard to beat! I just scored some original Shulton aftershave and talc from the 50's, it should be here soon. I'd already aquired some pre-plastic bottle P&G AS and cologne. The generic really does come very, very close to the original Shulton scent!

Tonight:

Gillette Sheraton
Dorco ST301
Delong "Black Badger" brush
Indian OS cream
OS after shave, early 90's

I just recieved these two cell phone pics. from my girlfriend, who is currently visiting her farther on the island of Bornholm. She found this razor, along with two worn brushes and a shave stick, at a flea-market there:

Barbett is an old Danish brand of razorblades, you quite often find vintage Barbett blades at flea-markets and in antique stores, but I have never heard of a Barbett razor.

From the pics. and my girlfriends decription it seems to be mint/near mint.

I am quite exited to get to examine it up close. Updates will follow.

I've just started shaving, and I'd like to learn how to shave the proper way ;)
My dad uses an electric shaver so no help there, though my grandad used to shave with a disposable blade razor.
Any tips on what I need or what I should start out with? I've been looking around a few shops and I must say it's very interesting. My dad thinks I'm crazy for doing things the 'old fashioned' way as he says.

strider_ani: I would very much recommend you to pay a visit to badgerandblade.com - there you will find all the advice you need and more :)

Today I went to one of the larger Danish annual fleamarkets; the Bridge Market in Middelfart.

Pickings were slim, but I managed to score the following items:

Old_Type_Copy_Barbett_Case_01.jpg

No name Gillette Old Type clone in mismnatched Barbett bakelite razor box w. a few blades and a loose head from a MFM branded razor

Flying_Eagle_02_01.jpg

Flying Eagle Brand plastic handle Tech clone. These must be rather common here in Denmark, it is the second one I find: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=73008

DUX_01.jpg

DUX_02.jpg

DUX (an old Danish household equipment brand) branded Gillette Old Type clone. I am quite sure that this one will clean up beautifully

Vintage_Butterscotch_Badger_01_01.jpg

Butterscotch handle vintage badger. This one will make a nice restoration project

I have been attending flea-markets since I was 12. Just a few years back razors (both straights and DEs) were everywhere - and costed next to nothing. I remember seeing at least two really nice mint/near mint sets last year (sadly before I got into DE shaving). But now, less than a year after there is nothing to be found except from what the professional buyers leave behind. I really thought it would take at least a few years before that happened here in Denmark, but no, it has already happened. Everywhere I asked about razors the answer was either: "Sorry, I just sold the ones I had" (1½ houer into the first day of the market!) or "Funny, everyone asks about those now". On top of that the prices, even for broken/worn out razors has gone through the roof. The interesting thing is that these razors do not show op in antique stores - so they must go straight to e-Bay :frown:

But, I still managed to get a bag a few good ones anyway; the DUX razor and the butterscotch brush are beautifull - and will be even more when I get them cleaned/restored.

Regards.

Jakob
