Interesting. I wonder if they are sport patterns or if they had a particular sport quality that was hard wearing.

The quality of the fabric - as compared to the normal Tootal ties (green, silver quality etc.) which were usually silk - is quite low on the "Sports Quality" ties. I think they might be cotton. They are usually marked "Tebilized".

Ok, I see. They were ties that you could get worked over and not worry too much about---they were reasonable to replace. I still like the patterns though and they did last this long.
I would bet that they had just about every sport represented in their ties.

Here's another for you!. Went diggin' through the storage boxes to find this one. Not long before it gets back into the rotation … This one's made of better fabric. Feels like a lightweight wool, pretty like the 1930s American Botany ties. no labels on this one.

It doesn't bear the hallmarks of Priestley's - that is, it's not totally crushed to hell and unstraightenable …

Maybe Priestley's wasn't so bad back in the day. But it certainly didn't pull through the years as uncrushable.

I doubt they were ever uncrushable. It even makes me wonder how they got away with it for so long.

Oh and the Botany tie tags from the 1930s were fragile and not fastened well at all. It is no wonder that few exist with them still attached like this:

You can see that even this tag is starting to unravel a bit at the edges.

Well, it's not all that easy to tell. There were, of course, a lot of makers. One thing with Tootal ties is that the labels were very sturdy and well attached. And the labels were always in the same place and attached in the same way. This one shows no sign of any label, and certainly not where you'd expect to find a Tootal label.

It will remain a mystery.

Interesting. I think you are right on the age. Those are nice examples in good condition. You just don't find them that often anymore.

Knowing how fickle tying a tie with a detachable collar can be, especially sliding them, I can see how chaps would resort to these.

The wearers of these were still shunned in the writings of the time though. That didn't matter much to the average consumer though as there were a good number of these sold. Perhaps many agreed with you over the writers and fashionistas of the day.
