Smokin' tie Widebrim. That one is outstanding. The light jacket/dark slacks is a pretty slick combo too. (I saw pix in the other thread)

It is very subdued, but the knot-planned is interesting. I wonder if the knot and tack diagonal stripes align when tied?

Hello. Newbie here. Here's a one of my grandfather's old ties.

Sadly, that stain by the upper "star" keeps me from wearing that one.

Yes, that's a bad photo of me at the family Christmas party not too long ago.
Edit: That first one is a "Lord Furnival Cravat" by Wormser. The other doesn't have a tag (anymore?). They both feel like silk, and the length makes me think they're both 30's, 40's, or early 50's, but I'm still very new at this and could be very wrong.

I've a couple of the 'four ways' they are very versatile but knot size is limited, nice find at a good price.
Here's an interesting tie that i picked up on Ebay for 99p. It's got 4 different colours and patterns, (which the photo doesn't show all that well) Never seen a tie like this before.

Great ties, especially the second. Regarding the stain on the first, either take it to a dry cleaner, or try to get it out yourself with Woolite (or a cheaper facsimile). Oh, and they are both c.-late '40s/-early '50s.

Welcome to the gang. Both great ties. I'll add to what Widebrim said about trying to clean that stain. Silk is always tricky in my experience because the dye is prone to running when submerged. For cleaning protein fibers like wool or silk, I prefer Dawn original liquid soap (the blue stuff) because it has a neutral ph of 7 (protein fibers want this) yet it dissolves grease. Woolite, while marketed for delicate fabrics, has a ph of 7.5 to 8.5, so more alkaline than protein fibers like. I've had success with silk ties by submerging them in a cool bath (about 1.5 gallons) with a small ****** of Dawn. You can also mix up a diluted Dawn solution and spot treat the tie, then rinse in a cool bath. If the tie is Rayon or acetate, you might try bathing it with oxiclean--a trick I learned from Widebrim. Oxiclean is very alkaline at ph 11, but it sure does the trick of removing some nasty stains, and I'll use it as a last resort. Whatever you use, be sure to rinse the ties multiple times. A lengthy cleaning post, but that tie deserves to hang around a neck once again.
