Not magnificent at all after that, but here's a skinny 60s Towncraft I nabbed for a quarter today.

The blue one is interesting because it's the first Stetson tie I've seen.

Not sure if the two rows of stitching are where a label has been or for strengthening?

Nice Esteban68! The one I have has similar stitching patterns. I think it's for reinforcement - although I don't know that the construction is necessarily any weaker than other ties. How old d'you reckon? 1940s?

I'm not sure Eddie as it's not that wide being 3 1/4"...I'd like to see an advert for these and would love to know if they're UK specific?

The 1940s/1950s plaid wool ties I've got (that are British) never tend to be that wide anyway really. The four-way I've got is also pretty narrow. I wonder if it's because of getting them between the buttons in your shirt. I've found you can't really wear them without tucking the small end - otherwise it sticks out. Would be a bit bulky if the small end (which is also a big end, if you get me) was quite wide.

I do have a few and one is definitely nearer the 4" mark and as you say you do have to tuck the other end into your shirt...useful things though!

These ties were a great concept for several reasons. The first being that if you get the tie dirty, you just tie it so the other side shows.

Yeah, dry cleaning---sort of like now---was not cheap back in those days.
You also had four ties to use for four different suits in a pinch. Great for traveling salesmen and executives who need to travel light. A different tie wakes up a suit and makes the same suit look different. Maybe two suits with four ties.
