STETSON 7x CLEAR BEAVER QUALITY

#1 is an Open Road and dates from mid to late 50's, I'm estimating. The seller said the liner had been replaced, which must have been in late 50's or early 60's. It would originally have had the gold roundel liner. Brim is 2 3/4. This hat has the softest felt of the 3 hats. Jimmy the lid has a short thread just for Open Road 7 Xs, and this hat here looks just like them except for the replaced liner.

#2 has a 3 1/4 brim. Think I've posted this hat briefly before. Dates late 50's to early 60's. When I bought it, the crown had a Center-fire crease.

#3 is at least 60's or later. 2 5/8 brim. It's like new and came in it's original box, I think. It's the lesser of the 3 hats. For a $50 hat, it can't begin to compete with my other hats of that price range. That's my opinion right now, anyway. Of course when I'm ready to sell it, I'll edit this post to say " I swear to God this is the best darn hat I've ever owned."

A Stetson 7X clear beaver dress hat with mode edge and wide ribbon purchased in 2011. The hat had undergone some modifications from its original owner and was quite soiled from use when it arrived. I sent the hat to Optimo in Chicago where it was cleaned and a new ribbon and sweatband installed. I don't wear it often but I'm always impressed by the felt quality when I take it out of its suede hat box... the moldable clay that is 7X quality at its best. Time flies when you're having fun, as evidenced from the first and last photos.

A great hat, Alan. That's the era of 7X I'm really looking for, late 40's or so.

I finally snapped a few pictures of my 7X Clear Beaver OR last weekend. I love this hat, the felt is just so finely finished, dense and malleable, and the long oval shape makes for a perfect fit. I wear it less than my Borsalino of similar design, the light tan of the Borsa goes a bit better with a wider range of clothing colours, and I have a diamond pinch crease on it that makes it a bit less 'Western looking and thus more versatile, but when I do find the right occasion for the Stetson this hat just shines, I've got many compliments when wearing it.

I've recently bought a 7X Clear Beaver that has mfg tags from the 40's to early 50's, so it has very soft felt. Comparing it with this slightly later hat, I couldn't tell any difference in the softness or quality of the felt.

Alan, I suspect that sideways Mode Edge stamp makes this a late 40's hat, like the Stetson Sixteen Fifty has that I bought a couple of months ago.
