Bassman, I hadn't seen this before, and wouldn't have known to look for it in another thread, so thanks. And regarding Cheney, I have only one thought...

He's mean old Mr. Potter. From the film It's a Wonderful Life. Yeah, Lionel Barrymore wore a homburg, but otherwise, he's got it dead-on.

If you're referring to the one I posted, it was an aerial view from space of the entire mall. I think the two complement each other. From the TV close ups you get no conception of what an enormous crowd was there.

Well, anyway, previously posted but not seen by me, and it was very interesting.

Surprising number of traditional hats, but nearly all are small of crown and pointy of taper, and many seem strangely small for the heads of the wearers (Cheyney's excepted)...one very stout guy in particular wearing hat so tiny that he looked a bit like a Jack-O-Lantern with a kid's fedora.

Lots of knit ski caps, but I really kind of dig Bush Sr's rabbit skin with the ear flaps slouching down in back - cool in a strange, don't give a damn anymore way. At the other extreme there's the two guys sitting next to each other (could be Secret Service due to their proximity to Obama) with bare shaved heads.

And quite a few guys with suit jackets, no hats or overcoats, but sporting earmuffs - I haven't seen those since I was kid and thought they were exceedingly dorky then. [No offense intended to any of you suave loungers who might fancy them!]

If you zoom directly in without panning, you'll find a woman with a red cloche hat, and next to her is a guy with his mouth wide open in a huge yawn.

It looks like Clarence Thomas has fallen asleep.

Interesting hats, saw some nice ones, a few fancy looking homburgs and some fedoras.
fftopic: Its funny because I found my dad in this picture. He is infront of Obama, at the foot of the Telecasting tower, taking pictures behind the lady with the purple sweater.
