Sweatband replacement

Hi friends,

I've got a great old Royal Stetson that needs a new sweat since the original is cracking and coming apart. I figure I'll ask for the original sweat back when I get this one replaced, but what other ideas should I keep in mind to maintain the provenance of this vintage hat--or is it even important to do so?

I would recommend removing the sweat and any other materials that will be replaced prior to sending it out for renovation. What we value as provenance can wind up in the refuse bin of a busy hat shop.
