Tell me what is desirable in hats.

I'll start off with I know nothing about mens hats. Vintage womens clothing I do know. So tell me what you guys look for. I'm trying to learn about mens wear now.

Hmmmm...

You have asked a very difficult question. What men find desirable in hats is as varied as, well, what men find desirable in women.

Speaking for myself, I like 1940's styles. Picture Bogart, and you are spot on. Famous names like Stetson, Dobbs, Knox and Adams add a premium.

As far as colors go, gray is my favorite, but I also own black and tan hats. Condition is everything.

Well I've never heard that comparison made before but it's a good one. Could it be that it's something that just kicks you in the gut when you know you found "the one?"

Viviene, a particular hat style (brim, crown dimensions as well as color) can uniquely suit a man just as a particular hairstyle can uniquely suit a woman.

Style aside, what I look for is soft felt that is pleasant to the touch, can be shaped easily by hand and yet hold its shape. Also, the leather sweatband should be soft and feel nice against my forehead.
