For some, I wonder if choosing a beater is mostly a shield against anxiety. It’s hard not to worry about that first accidental scrape against a concrete wall, a seatbelt, or a car door when a jacket represents a massive investment.

Maybe you deliberately choose a specific hide—like a teacore or an aniline leather—to be your absolute daily beater precisely because you want to thrash it and force that beautiful grain and character to show up as fast as possible.
