Tell me about the straw Boater. Purchased one today. A Dobbs perhaps 60 years old at an antique shop. Actually in pretty good shape but too small for me to wear.

Now thinking maybe I should have one for myself to wear come spring/summer.

What is the history of the boater? Are they still produced today? By perhaps Dobbs?

The boater was invented in Italy. It was originally the headgear of Venetian gondoliers, which is why it's called a "boater". And yes, you can still buy them brand-new.
