The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Here's a new one (for me that is).
Borsalino Giorgetto bowler. Brim at 5cm and crown 13cm. Sold as a size 55, but that is not correct. It has a separate size sticker with 7 1/8 on it. Curious because it was not intended for the American market and given the way it fits me I don't think it's an English 7 1/8. Made for JS Meuwsen, one of The Netherlands' largest hat retailers and a manufacturer themselves. Interesting that the crown patch is one piece (both the Borsalino emblem and the retailers' name).
Judging by the label late thirties. A few scuffmarks, but aside from that in excellent shape.

Stefan, Super! It's good to see another European market transition (from cell label) example.

O me of little faith. I've posted these here before with the seller's pictures because I did not think I'd ever see them in reality. After close to five months in limbo however, they appeared at the post-office yesterday (had to bail them out). And not a beep out of them about where the hell they've been. Prodigals can get away with anything.

Borsalino Ipersca Turchese. Size 7 with the blind stitched overwelt brim at 6cm and tghe crown at 10,5 at the center dent. Very soft felt that was resisting to behave for the pictures. Wears like a dream though. Very lovely blue colour close to a petrol shade (or so I am told). Anyway after dancing a little jig here it is.

The other prodigal.
Borsalino Landasti Misto Ruitor. Size 7 with the bound brim at 6cm and the crown a substantial 11cm at the center dent. A bit more well-behaved than its sibling. Happy camper over here.

Stefan, Happy to see that they arrived. There are very long delays for sure. I have an envelope sitting in limbo for weeks now after passing through US Customs.

So glad to see that these finally arrived, Stefan. Two wonderful examples, but this Misto is magnificent!

I think this is the second time we’ve seen a price tag on a nice vintage Borsalino Qualita Superiore. Original price: $10.*

Economically speaking that makes for a sweet hat, the same price point as a Royal Stetson.*

Thank you, Steve. I wouldn't have minded the long wait as long as I knew the delivery was a certainty.

very nice
Thanks, Vic.

Thanks, Jonathan. Quite the relief for sure. I'll have to compare the Borsalino Misto hats sometime side by side.

Thanks, Bowen. I'm having good luck recently with the blue coloured hats. First the blue Portis and now this one. Now all I need is a Pervinca;)

It not only kept its condition but its value as well.
Glad to see them arrive safely... wonderful hats!
Thanks, Alan. That was one of the longest sighs of relief my lungs could muster. In the end well worth the wait.

Borsalino "Rizzo?", French Size Point 5 1/2, Swiss Market, possibly early 1930s. This was a gift from Manfred. I noticed that his original photos are missing. I made a wild guess on the model based on the faint remnants of the two letters (? "zo") on the paper label.
Steven certainly "Rizzo" is a type of bowler hat from the "ancient" Borsalino.
If I remember correctly I sold one some time ago to a fellow of FL.
I look for confirmation in my messy archive of what has been saw in recent days.
Nice piece :)

Borsalino Qualita Supreme - Feather Weight

6719FA0D-D59F-4125-950D-FC9A01435001.jpeg

Borsalino Qualita Supreme - Feather Weight
Super light and thin brown felt
5 inch open crown - 4 1/2 as shaped
2 1/2 raw edge brim front - 2 1/4 sides
7/8 matching grosgrain ribbon
2 inch brown sweat
Oil skin liner tip

Here is the ultra thin, ultra light Borsalino Qualita Supreme Feather Weight straight out of its “coffin box”. I’ve been after one of these in a more traditional color and style ever since I acquired two oddball Coffin hats earlier in the year. My wife, who had intercepted this one when it arrived and held for my birthday.... Did not know how to roll and place it back in its box. So this one came out of its box pretty much scrunched into a ball. I thought for sure it would need a ton of steam to get it into a reasonable shape. However after a quick hand shaping and sitting out for a bit.. it really took form. A bit of steam would likely smooth out some of the less than perfect areas. However I am quite impressed how well it shaped without. Sure it is a fact that you have to give up some structure stability with a felt this thin and light... but all and all I really couldn’t be happier with this hat.

Im not sure the age of this hat.. but the oil skin liner and tiny piece of manufacturing tag could be a hint.

An extra cool bonus with this hat in addition to the coffin box is this instruction pamphlet that was included in the box that explains how the owner should unroll and steam their new hat into shape after they arrived home with it

I’m looking forward to comparing this feather weight to the extra light weight black Borsalino I found a few weeks back.
