I have a vintage Stetson on the way. It looks to be in good shape, but is a 7 3/8 so I hope it fits my 59.5 cm head. Some do, some don't....

Nice; I like the textured sweatband.

You've got yourself an old beauty there, Doug. Looking forward to seeing you sporting it.

I thought so, too, early 1900s is my guess. My 2nd try for one that fits.

My fingers are crossed that it fits, Doug. It looks like it should be in the ball park for your size. My experience is, stiff hats can be stretched a bit, and then a bit more if it's carefully and slowly done.

Thanks. Good to know. I love the sweat, so i hope it's wearable as is.

I still have my eye out for a hat with those incredible, pleated liners but this one with the tippet/sticker is attractive, too.

I'm thinking leather jacket, jeans and a derby. Then there's tweed....

Pleated liners are the icing under the cake. Your ca. 1900s Stetson looks good, nonetheless. Hope it fits or can be fitted.

I'm always so tempted to buy a bowler but I really feel it would sit unworn. I have my eye on one right now I might just go for it if the price doesn't get too high.

Wearing a bowler ( otherwise called a derby hat ) is indeed quite a statement these days but can be done. I have bought one from a friend whom owns an antique shop and have, on occasion, worn it.
I was a little bit worried that it would get lots of strange looks, but it didn’t. In fact there was one person whom looked at me and said: “ That’s a nice hat!” which sparkled a conversation.

It 'a Failsworth which is not a very expensive bowler since it is made of wool felt. I took the liner from the inside because I was a little uncomfortable with it. The hat wasn’t very old or used and took well to be steamed and stretched. The ribbon is a little worn and I may consider having to change it at some point.

It is like this one (picture found on line)

The crown is not very high or low nor the brim very large. Unless one is a person for which only fur felt would do, it may be the ideal hat for the occasional use.

I'd be disappointed if I didn't get looks (strange or otherswise) while wearing my Bowlers or any of my hats in fact [emoji4]

Well, :) I suppose that there are many elements involved : the personal pleasure to wear something that one likes but also the more or less confessed or unconfessed wish to show what we like off, nevertheless, I am not sure that I would like if someone where to look at me wearing one of my hats and say aloud: “ Really?”.

Well, let’s say that I am just bigger than most people that I come across and that they generally, may not dare showing their true feelings, supposing there would be consequences if I were to take exception to those comments :)

I've been dealing with the same feelings for about 3 years. But for about $50 I scored an early 1900s Stetson that's in great shape.

I figure I'll try it with my leather jacket first, then branch out to tweed jackets from there. Your own mind is the biggest critic as others generally don't care, or are vocally supportive.

I say go for it. Bowlers are very versatile. Jeans, T shirt, & '80's Levi denim jacket. These are old pics that iv'e posted somewhere before.
    You can do this!
