Christy's London, UK Size 7, date stamped 15. Jan. 1936. This Bowler came with the P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin Melone. It was sold by Philipp Neubauer, Unter den Linden, Berlin, 24. (this location didn't survive WWII).

I was able to find the Austrian Patent (133275) stamped on the sweatband of the P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin Melone with the felt insert that P. & C. Habig Wien called "Auto Cape". The patent claim is to make a stiff felt hat that is resistant to denting and the felt insert being a part of the invention. This is pretty interesting so probably worth taking a look at.

Drawing from the French Patent(756192A).

This is the Austrian Patent(133275) from 1932 and an addendum from 1936.

This is the French Patent (756192A) from 1933. The translation might be a bit more clear in this one.

The inventor Adolf Sindermann has a good number of hat related patents. His company was a major supplier of felt stumpen and capelines.

Just got this fuzzy grey bowler in. Hard to tell but it looks like fur felt over some kind of wool concoction. Very pleased to finally land one of these, the fates thwarted several previous attempts.

Thanks! It's very unique based on what I have seen. Did you steam and brush it with the nap? If possible I would like to see a closer + sharper photo of the felt finish. Does it have a company mark?

Thank you kindly gents, heres a couple of closer photos and the best I could find in terms of any kind of paper label. I used a velvet pad to get the nap in one direction in the fourth photo

Thank you for posting the additional photos of the long hair Bowler. It's too bad that it doesn't have a company mark on the paper label. Did it have a liner? The fourth photo after the polishing really looks great!

The Tress & Co. is fantastic! The condition looks great too.

Thanks Mayser and Bowlerman, the liner has it coming from Morgan and Ball outfitters. I'm pretty sure it was made by the same maker that made hats for Scott and Co and Woodrow and Co. amongst countless other firms.

Found this cool derby at a estate sale this week end.5" crown,2" brim,2" leather sweatband.Sweatband in good shape.Didn't want to turn out the sweatband because some threads are loose.I'm wondering how old this one is.I've not seen The New Yorker hats with swank brand before.

Nice find. Interesting how the liner illustration seems to draw inspiration from The New Yorker, which started publication in 1925.

I love that the sweat stamp has all the detail of the liner. The art deco design would be typical of 1920s & 30s, and the way the logo matches the magazine, it must be after publication began. But that really only tells us the hat can't be from earlier. I don't think anyone has posted a guide to dating this brand :)

And Of Course My Horse, that fuzzy bowler is the bee's knees!

Someone (not me) would have to determine the status (hat company?) of "Hats With Swank". Also photo of paper label behind sweatband or any other marks would be helpful. Start searching (here, Google)!
