HC53 Chancellor first pitch 1938 throw.jpg
I guess I missed the official opening day of Baseball season, not my thing really. Back in 1938, the Chancellor of the Oregon Board of Higher Education threw out the first pitch of the season at Oregon State College. I have been doing research on a Japanese American pitcher, Ralph Takami. He was quite a star for OSC, and as WWII began was interned in the Minidoka Camp. He coached a team of high schoolers that beat the pants off of all the teams in the area. They had no uniforms, hand-me-down equipment, and were the only internees allowed outside of the barbed wire during 1943. Interesting story.

This image makes me smile:)! I can't grow a beard correctly, this is only a dream.
Yeah, I just had to post that. I didn't appreciate the comment made by another poster on another thread implicating a beard longer than 5 o'clock fuzz makes you look homeless. Then a poster on the WHAYWT thread telling someone else he needed to trim his mustache? WTF? I haven't been in the WHAYWT thread since.

I think that was a lone example of not thinking before hitting "post reply" over at WHAYWT. With all the beards on the lounge, It seems strange that someone would post about fuzz, beards are finally back in style. My problem is I can only grow a strap under my chin, I look like a fat Amish wannabe:)

Is it just me, or do they look like they've just been told they were found guilty and are to be hanged by the neck until they are dead, dead, dead? :D

Not at all Al , they look extremely out of place , uncomfortable , and like their Momma made them play Cowboy and get a picture . I don't like getting my picture made and never have , I may look that way . I always have that "Why am I doing this ?" feeling .

Since Mr. Bankhead served as a Confederate officer during the Civil Wear, I suspect that what he is wearing is actually a Confederate veteran uniform? Possibly a reunion photo?
