The ones that got away

The ones that were done away with... :(

I live in a small town. It's very rare for me to find good vintage anything. Well, a co-worker of a friend has an attic full of vintage sewing stuff. They are giving me a treadle sewing machine. Score! The machine is ca. 1901 and the owner kept a log of all her sewing projects and they are giving me a copy of this log along with the machine. So I imagine there must have been many, very well preserved and organized patterns. My friend asked about sewing patterns, and they said they THREW THEM OUT!!! I'm squirming with grief on the inside.

This one started going high from the beginning. I usually don't care for brown or orange, but the style is great. It was listed 40s but looks 30s to me?

Yep, you and Miss Sis are both right - it's late 1940s, which commonly had some pretty Deco-esque lines. There was some pretty interesting discussion on a thread about six months ago, how fashions from the very very late 1930s were amazingly similar to the "new look" itself. We speculated that WWII interrupted the natural fashion progression! If that's so, it's even reasonable to see some 30s look to late 40s stuff.

Really!!! What is the shape, shirtwaist?

Yes. It's so cute but unfortunately, the fabric is very thin and shredded all along the seams under the arms. I'm so sad that I can't wear it but it's still very pretty.

i wanted this coat sooo badly! and i don't even like fur, but the color! the buttons! the sleeves and back details! even though it was too big for me, i would have bought it anyway if the bidding hadn't gone over my affordability (for something that wouldn't even fit right, especially...) before i even got a chance to bid! lucky winner... *sigh* now i need to find a way to make a similar coat, sans fur...
