What are you waiting for? No time like the present! Not many Akubra bowlers show up here and we're interested to see how it looks. There is even a Bowlers and Derbies thread for just that kind of hat.
I’m really self conscious how I look. I just feel like the bowler needs a suit, and I don’t have one.

Interesting thread and Many have pointed out how the signify of every type of hat (the signifiant, in this instance) has evolved significantly over time. One pattern that repeats is that hats which began garments of relatively workaday or even universal usage slowly became semi-formal or even formal hats.
The topper has actually had a very long life, beginning around the time of the French Revolution and, admittedly in limited circumstances such as white tie events, morning dress, etc., still being worn today.
