There really ought to be a forum entirely dedicated to discussing the latest great film on TCM. I just watched "The Uninvited" with Ray Milland, Ruth Hussey, Gail Russell, Donald Crisp and Cornelia Otis Skinner. What a film! What sheer vintage delight! If you didn't catch it tonight, I'm sure it will be on again some time. I won't spoil it by saying anything about it, except that there is plenty of sartorial excellence to emulate.
I Googled Cornelia Otis Skinner, because she was so wonderfully over the top in this film. She did hardly any film acting, but she did a lot of work on the stage, and a lot of writing, too. But I had to share one quote from her: "One learns in life to keep silent and draw one's own confusions."

I missed it as well and from it's IMDB review I don't recall ever seeing it. I guess I'll have to add it to my ever growing list of must sees.

I first saw it a few years ago (I might have seen it as a child), after many people recommended it to me.
Highly recommend it.

Sincerely,
The Wolf

This movie is one of my favorite all-time ghost stories, along with The Innocents. I recommend these movies to anyone who prefers more of a psychological ghost movie to a splatter type movie. I've always preferred a building of suspense in my horror movies over the straight-out gore that is typical of modern horror movies. I think imagination and suspense are much more spooky.

Drat! I flipped to TCM, this was on, and I felt the glare of the "not another dusty old movie!" stinkeye behind me and kept going. Should have held my ground! lol

Oof, I am too sad I missed this, it's one of my favorites!:eusa_doh: I watched it back in October, I think, and was thoroughly creeped out by the time it ended. I I loved it because it was very much in the vein of films like The Others and The Innocents, which are absolutely brilliant in their subtlety and gradual building of tension.

One day I hope to add to my collection, as I also caught this on TCM, Ray Milland and the whole cast was great in this haunting story, it kept your attention, inviting, its a classic, Milland (in fact every ones) hat, clothes of the era were outstanding, what was that little car he drove? it was cool. Ray Milland is offen a forgotten star from yesterday compared to Bogey, Cagney, Jimmy Stewart and the lot, this was a great film. I really enjoy it, hollywood doesn't make horror or mysteries like these any more, I also caught “The Picture of Dorian Gray” with 20 year old Angela Lansbury, she was cute ;)

I love this movie. I reserved it from the public library years ago and then a friend bought it on VHS so we share. Stella by Starlight is the song. My brother is also an artist. Alan Napier is also very good. I like the device of a perfume brinign back memories. Beautiful scenery.
