I believe the interior church scene where Costner takes his blood oath
with Connery was filmed inside St John Cantius Catholic Church, 920 N Carpenter;
largely at Connery's suggestion after he had viewed the main altar area.
While the film has some historic inaccuracy, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Also, the introductory meeting on the bridge over the Chicago River....

For those who grew up with Robert Stack as their image of Eliot Ness, Kevin Costner's portrayal was much closer to accurate. Ness was -- what?? -- 28-30 years old at the time, boyish, ambitious. Capone was, I believe, 32 years old.

Frank Nitti was reputed to be more of a businessman than enforcer. He survived Capone and headed the Capone mob until being forced out in, I believe, 1942. There is dispute whether Nitti was murdered, or committed ******* while on the verge of being murdered.

Having written that, I enjoyed "The Untouchables" for its entertainment value.

Been a long time since I've seen it. Exactly how accurate was the story compared to the real story? There must have been some fictionalizing by Hollywood?
Eliot Ness came to Cleveland and finished his career here trying to solve the infamous Torso Murders. Still unsolved I believe,...
I would like to see a big -budget film about that subject, could make for a great movie.

Well, the most glaring use of dramatic licence was throwing Nitti off the courthouse roof when, as Naphtali stated, he actually lived another ten years . :eusa_doh:

The story was entertainment, with few circumstances accurate. But don't be concerned. It was good entertainment.

'The Untouchables' came out during my teen years, and I watched it over and over again. I loved it.

My favorite line:

'What are you prepared to do?!' from a ****** Sean Connery.

I love the movie. I believe it was based on the television series that was based on the book that was based on real life. I took it as a fun movie and not history. Didn't David Mamet write the script?

Yes, but it wasn't a signature Mamet script, dialoguewise.

I bought the DVD of the film about him with Australia's own Anthony La Paglia. Gave a good portrayal of the man.
