Thoughts on lambskin leather jackets from Schott?

Schott makes several models of cross-zip or perfecto jackets in cowhide that are not heavy or bulky. If you are close enough to visit a store in person it is really fun to see all the jackets in person and try them on.
This is really the best idea! Nothing beats in-person shopping & try-on's. :)

Something else to consider, Schott is pretty well known on many of their Made in US products to fit a standard poly-fill "quilted" lining in many of their motorcycle-design Perfecto jackets. It's usually fixed and not removable. This alone, much more than the outer shell leather used, will quickly restrict the jacket's useful range to just the cooler months. I find with most of my jackets to prefer not to have it at all, and just layer a little if needed, as I can tend to run a bit warm.

It's difficult to tell with the photos you posted of the two models you the OP are considering, but I would check closely for lining materials before making the order. This again would be easily found & experienced if you go in-person to a store.

Honestly, with 2025 logic, I feel like most of us would be inclined to reline anyway. Continue building history with the same garment, exciting option to customize and make it our own, less wasteful, etc

The environmental consideration certainly weighs in. It's why I always sold on the old jackets when I was finished with them to someone who was either happy to do that or didn't care the way I did about a few holes in the lining.

These days, I sometimes also wonder about the idea of buying a jacket in otherwise nice shape but with a shot lining, if I was sure it was of a style that could 'work' without the lining. I remember Schott did a utilitarian cafe racer in a brown hide with Restoration Hardware some years back that came unlined. I did like the look of that, but it was crazy expensive at the time.
