Here are some of my tools I use to clean and condition leather. Water not shown. lol.

For the application brushes, two of each type. One for the saddle soap, the other for the conditioner. Big horsehair brush for before and after. Paint brush type horsehair brush to clean hard to reach areas.
Stainless steel brush for some areas and "toothbrush" type for special needs areas. Chopstick, for cleaning with (towel) hard to reach areas including zipper areas. The saddle soap does contain lye. However, I had never had any trouble with it.

Tuned in for the tips.

I have about 15 minutes a year to wear my jackets, all of them. Our climate keeps me pinned down.
It's a good thing that I get almost as much enjoyment maintaining them as I do wearing.
