Yesterday (Friday 27 June) was the official UK Veteran's Awareness Day, but this weekend sees most local celebrations taking place around the nation.

I myself am helping out in Walsall, West Midlands, today, as official photographer of a large event in town organised by the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association Forces Help Walsall & Wednesbury Branch, a charity that helps veterans of all ages, from all of the armed forces.

I'm giving my services free of charge, and also putting on a display of post-WWII news items from local papers, to help make the point that there has been a war or 'police action' or need for peacekeepers somewhere in the world ever since the end of WWII, and British Servicemen and Women have continued to serve, help the helpless, fight - and lay down their lives not only on our behalf but in support of the people of many nations including our good friends the American people.

Today I'm not interested in the politics, which are sometimes controversial, but in supporting those who have put themselves in harm's way for me and mine, and the wider world, with total professionalism. I hope that any Brits reading this will find out about any local events happening this weekend in their area and go support the troops and those who have served in the past.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy your weekend in peace, wherever you are.
