Vintage Campaign hat circa 1898

This was for sale on th 'bay for over $1500. One of the best preserved specimens I've ever seen pictured. Notice the width of the sweatband. I wonder why it was so wide. The reverse taper makes me wonder how tall the crown was before the fore and aft bash. If I could scrape up the cash, I'd have Art reproduce this hat for me, minus the US flag and female image on the crown.
