So I just acquired a new shop for my hat company downtown here in Lexington, KY (144 w short street). It was a cobbler shop for 54 years prior to me moving in and the building is from 1806. While cleaning out the back area I found a stash of old liquor bottles as well as a brown paper bag. In this brown paper bag I found of all things an old hat. It is a Crofut & Knapp and was sold at Kaufman’s (Kautman’s? It’s hard to tell) style center here in town. It has a Cavanagh edge to it as well. I’m going to get in touch with local historians to see who resided in my shop before the cobbler (the landlord has no clue) and see if I can match a person with the initials in the sweatband. Anyone have any idea of this beautiful hats age?

^ Yes, it's "Kaufman's" with an "f", and what a cool hat! Once you open for business you should hang it in a place of "honor" in the shop, maybe with two or three of those bottles nearby to remind people of the building's history.

That is exactly what I intend on doing. I’m contacting the local historical society tomorrow to see if I can find any more info on who it used to belong to. This hat tells a real story. You can tell the owner would pinch it in three distinct places on the left side and on the nose, it even still has the shape of their thumb on the two spots on the left. I want to believe they left this here for me to tell their story, whatever it may be. Or got drunk one night, left it there, and then just totally forgot about it. Either way, it’s cool.

Anyone got an idea how old this cap i just bought is? seller is thinking it's 1960's, doesn't look particularly ultra modern, only cost me £8 so deal either way.

Like the old fellas cap, looks a bit like a traditional 3 piece English cap perhaps, i have a few, they are my favourite cut of flat cap.

This one is one of my favourites, a 58cm which is 2cm below my size but fits alright to be honest, has a few moth holes but i think they will be long gone now considering it's age.
