Just recieved this from my aunt and uncle down for Christmas, a vintage Christy's bowler/derby. My aunt bought it at an antique fair in London in 1973, so it definitely qualifies as vintage. 7 1/8 and a perfect fit.
It is in remarkably good condition given it has been in their attic for decades, a few moth nibbles on the lower brim but they are barely noticeable. A white paint mark on the brim binding is rather more noticeable and I am not sure how to remove it. The sweatband is old and brittle and parts of it have crumbled away around where it is stitched to the hat.
Could anyone hazard a guess as to date going by the Christy's label?
It was interesting to compare the quality of this to my modern Christy's homburg, the brim binding on the bowler is just vastly superior to the homburg, the entire binding is flat even with the rather complex curving, and the oin at the rear is perfectly flat.
