$24 hats in 1898! I’d love to handle/steal a few of those!

Since this is from a trade publication that was probably the price per dozen. Still ... I'd love to find one like that and I'd still pay $24 for it.

I’m sure you’re right. “The best $24 hat made” made me think it was for a hat, but as the advert was directed at retailers and not the public your per dozen conclusion makes sense. It also jives with all the other hat pricing in the flier.
