Vintage Hat Question

I recently purchased a vintage grey Dobbs fedora from a local antiques dealer. I read in one of the old posts about the information under the sweatband. When I pulled the sweatband down a piece of paper fell out. It had a name and address written on it. I assume this is the name of the gentleman who first purchased the hat. Is this something that was common?

Mine until Hell

I think that it was. Vintage Silhouettes hats are shipped with a card with, "Like Hell it's yours," write on it and lines for one's name and address. I suspect that things like what you found are a sort of precedent for that.
