Beautiful vintage Stetson Whippet in size marked 7 1/4. The felt on this one is amazing. I have had several vintage whippets and none were quite like this one as far as the quality of the felt.
Wide brim is 2 3/4" .Grosgrain ribbon is 1 1/2". Brim edge ribbon is 3/8 on top and bottom. Also the brim ribbon is a different shade or color than the crown ribbon making for a nice contrast .
There are no issues with this very well cared for hat. Very clean inside ,liner even has oil skin paper attached. Slight normal wear on sweatband edge. Open crown almost 6".
Pm with any qs or offers
Asking 495.

Hi
Is the asking price $495.00 or $95.00?
Thank you.

I wouldn't have imagined that you'll actually succeed selling this one at a fantasy price to a lounger. Must be a registered lurker.

BTW: Don't get me wrong. I firmly believe that most prices people ask for Whippets these days are just that: fantasy prices. It's that Whippet craze that makes people go gaga. Has for years. Hyped and frenzied. I watched the prices for Whippets go spiraling through the roof over the years and I still can't understand what's so special about these hats (and I even had one myself). There were sellers on the 'Bay jumping on the bandwagon asking $650 or more for a standard Whippet. That's just nuts in my book. [huh]

SOLD.Thank you Sooose.
All I am going to say about the above comments is that in defense of the buyer I would find those comments somewhat insulting and ask that other loungers be more respectful of the buying and selling market here. Each of us has a different value system and if you agree or disagree that's fine but don't belittle others for the choices that they make .
Thank you

Well, of course you're right; sorry about that. But as I mentioned above my comment was geared towards Whippet prices in general - which I can't really understand. I'm not saying that Whippets aren't any good, don't get me wrong. It's just that these days people are more than willing to pay huge amounts of extra money just for a certain brand and model name (and I'm not just talking hats here). Good for you that you managed to sell your hat for a good price and if the buyer is happy - well, perfect. I'm willing to admit that $350 is a more reasonable price than $650+. ;)

I myself have noticed that whippets seem to command a top dollar price, however I think it is more than just a name on this hat, the over all "look" with the traditional shape and the wider brim edge trimming makes it have a certain appeal as compared to some other hats we treasure such as the Stratoliner.

If you look at the "history" of hats becoming more popular in demand, in just what you can find here on the Lounge, you notice that there are certain hats that are more desirable today then five or so years ago. I wish I hat a whippet as nice as this one...(sigh) some day.....right now I am aiming for the $750.00 Stratoliner that has been roosting on eBay for half a year or so.....

Whether it is a hat, a car, or a deer rifle..... any item is worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay for it...

The buyer knows how much he wants the article and how much he is willing to spend... someone else may think the opposite but that is what makes the world go round......

I don't believe I have ever heard some complain because they got a hat at what they considered a cheap price so why comment on a higher paid price? They are not spending anyone's money but their own....

It is their business IMHO...
